So I've been racking my brain trying to think of what to get my Mother for her 50th. I mean, it has to be really special. I got her a Mother's ring with all of her kids birthstones for Mother's day so jewelery is out. I'm not terribly rich but can get her something decent. So, I'm throwing her a surprise party, which should be enough, but I want something for her to remember the day. So, what do you think about me taking her and my daughter - her only grand child, (and I'm her only daughter) to have our portrait taken together professionally?

Do you think it's special enough? If not, ANY IDEAS?!

Thank you!! :)

I would love it!!! Just keep in mind that mother's do not want you to break yourself to give them a gift. I would much rather have something from the heart - I know it sounds cliche but it is true. I think the portrait is a perfect idea.

My mom loves that kind of things....im sure since shes a grandma she'll love to show off her lovely grandchild and daughter!!! Nice thinking with the party too....shes the big 5 0!!!! thats something to celebrate even tho im sure she doesnt....lol...my moms not quite there yet but in 6 years im doing it for her! well...have fun with the party planning and pics!

I'm sure mom will be very happy with just the party, but a portrait of the 3 girls (her, you, and you daughter) will probably be treasured in later years.

You're definitely very filial. Having the portrait is great, it's something worth remembering for a whole life. And having a party is also advisable. I believe your mom will be touched by all that you'll have done for her. :-)
