The former did not "branch off" of the latter. It was an even split in the 11th century. So is he uneducated and ignorant, or just manipulative and deceptive?

I find it funny that the man in charge of a religion that sets him up as a position that is unbiblical and freely uses the idea of idolatry claims that others have no hope of salvation. Laugh!

Right on!!! The Orthodox Church is the true church. The pope knows all about Orthodoxy, but doesn't want to give up the power because the Orthodox Church will not accept that the pope is head of the church.

The Orthodox Church is correct. Jesus Christ is head of the Church.

Christians were first called Christians in Antioch, one of the original Orthodox Churches!

The pope is a bigger weasel than Bush.
He is bringing back the Latin Mass.... in which prayers call for either the conversion or destruction of the Jews, he wants all countries to treat illegal aliens as "refugees," regardless of what the impact will be, he has threatened to excommunicate anyone pro-choice or any woman who has had an abortion, and he is doing his damnedest to undo all of the great things that Pope John Paul II accomplished.

He is the Antichrist, and as far as I am concerned, revelations speaks of the destruction of the Vatican, if not organized religion itself.

They offer salvation for a price, protect former nazis, war criminals, and child molesters, judge our faith by the amount of our donations, and call us ungodly when we reveal their dirty little secrets.
We would be better off without the influence of such a corrupt establishment.

No, the Pope is fully aware that the Eastern Orthodox is equally as old as Catholicism.

But we broke apart on issues of doctrine. They believe they are more correct and we believe we are more correct.

Here is the full text of the new document that states nothing new: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070629_responsa-quaestiones_en.html

Most Christian denominations believe that each of them is the fullest version of the Church of Christ.

While the Catholic Church also believes that she is "the highest exemplar" of the mystery that is the Church of Christ, she does not claim that non-Catholic Churches are not truly Christian. The Catholic Church teaches:

Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.

Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.

All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.

With love in Christ.

He was a Nazi in WWII........... I dunno. What do you think? Deceptive maybe?

And yes you are right. They are both the same age. As a matter of fact that difference of religious views is what caused the word "heretic" to be coined. It comes from the word heresis (Greek) which roughly translates into "to think for ones self".

Don't get me wrong..... I have the utmost respect for the Catholic Church. But I think that their selection of the current Pope was based more on European politics than on who was best suited for that post.

Actually it's older, Jesus' teachings were a hit in Macedonia 250 years before they became orthodox in Rome.
