Drill several 1/2" holes in the base of the tree and fill them with copper sulfate. The tree will be dead in no time.

What you need to do is "ring the tree". Take a hatchet or even a sharp knife and cut the bark all the way around the tree in two rings and remove the bark inbetween the two rings (what you should be removing is about 2" inches of bark in a circulr ring all the way around the tree). This will kill the tree in a short amount of time. Trees pass most of their nutirents and water through the bark. If you cut out a section of the bark all the way around the tree, it won't be able to get the nutirents up the tree and it will eventually die. Also, insects etc will enter the tree this way and help to put an end to it.

I agree with Mike T. BUT... this method will be foolproof if you do this in the 'sign of the heart'. Things that you can make 'bleed' will surely die in the signof the heart. Farmer's Almanac or a Farmer's calendar will tell you the days- Like for July the sign of the heart is the 15th, 16th and 17th. If you want to be rid of trees, bushes, shrubs, etc. That is the time to do it. Some people don't believe in this kind of stuff- and shrug it off as old wives tales. But it really works! Get an almanac and you will learn alot!

You can go to your local hardware store and buy some round up or stump remover. Once you do that you can spray it on the tree or around the stump and do it about everyday for two weeks and let it soak in. Give it some time and then you should be able to pull it out of the ground.

Pour engine oil into the root area! But truthfully if its cracking walls, your household insurers should demand it is felled.
