The issue with tap water is that most municipal water is treated with chlorine and fluoride. Chlorine kills bacteria that is essential for a healthy soil biology.

If you can harness rainwater by way of a cistern or rain barrel, it is better.. just be sure that you have a closed system (so mosquitoes can't lay eggs in the held water). You will also save $$$ on your water bill!

Rain water is best. I bought one of those large storage containers and sit it out when it rains. It has a lid to keep the bugs out. I then pour the water into empty gallon jugs, it will keep for many months this way. The plants love it so much more than chemcially treated tap water. You can also buy a rain chain to hang from your gutter or any place on your roof and let the chain drain into your container.

Any time you utilize the rain water, it is better for the environment all around. However, mosquitoes are a big concern if you have standing water. If you can't use it right away, invest in some mosquito rings. You can get them at any local garden store. They inhibit the growth of mosquito larva.

rain water by far is superior to any other water, it has nitrogen in it, something our tap water does not have. Make sure if you do catch it that you use it so you don't gt bug etc in it. It is a great breeding ground for mosquitoes. depending on what you are watering you can buy drain hoses that attach to your gutter and send the water to your plants that way, some of the come with holes in them and some don't, so it depends on what you are trying to do

I dont know about that... Currently I am in the upper midwest... whatever zone that is.. and my tomato plants are about as tall as me.. about 5 feet... I water them with the hose... I also Miracle Grow feed them every 1-2 weeks.. .and I also used something called BLOOD MEAL. IT is mainly used for roses.. you mix it in with the soil. But can be used in the garden and made all my plants act like I gave them some mutant potion!! But make shure not to get it on any of the leaves... only mix it in the soil!!!! Try it yo uwont be disappointed.

If you run tap water into a gallon jug and let it get room temp then it bleeds out the chlorine in the water and is fine to use. Rain water is always good, just don't let it sit till it gets mosquitoes.

Just don't let the bucket sit too long with the puddled water or you'll be breeding mosquitoes

Rainwater is always better than tap water. HOw about doing it properly and getting a water butt so you can use a watering can with that.
