I think life has made me both bitter and better.
A few events in my past such as being car jacked at gun point, getting my *** kicked randomly by a gang that had nothing better to do, or just being at the wrong place at the wrong time has made me really bitter towards life and trusting other people.
On the flip side of the coin, those events plus other positive events has made me a stronger person. I realized that in some situations, I could have died but I didn't. This gave me added reinforcement of happiness knowing that I am a strong person that can endure even the worse situations in life and still come out ahead.

Depends on the aspect of life you're talking about..
I'd say for the most part, it's bitter- because negative things that happen to humans leave a more lasting impression than positive ones [Note that I'm not saying that there are more negative things in life...]
But we learn from all experience, even negative ones, so I can honestly say that I have become a better person than how I used to be =]

It's about 25% bitter and 75% better. That's not so bad considering I've gone through 3 divorces.

It's made me a better person. I take in what is out there and I try to make the best of what I have. It's not always easy (in fact there are times I would love to give up) but I keep trying.

Yes. But perhaps "realistic" is a better appelation than "bitter." Unfortunately, reality is rarely pleasant, so one's reaction to or expectation of it comes off as bitterness.

A little bit of both, really, but sometimes bitter can be good in small doses...
