What you are probably seeing is mold. A cold is usually caused by a rhino virus that attaches its self to the upper respiratory cells in humans or other mammals. The virus that tomatoes are supseptible to is the tobacco mosaic virus. It is very important to not smoke in your garden, and wash your hands after handling anything that contains tobacco. Good luck with your mold problem. There are products out there that address the problem.
