Heard "Dry your eyes, mate" again yesterday. Man, that's some sad stuff.

Surprisingly, not any of the many country songs that specialise in sadness, but a traditional 'folk' song called, variously, 'Willie McBride', 'Green Fields of France' and 'Flowers of the Forest'.

This song, simply, tells the story of someone (the singer) sitting by a graveside in a World War 1 cemetary, and reading the headstone.

Willie McBrdie was 19 when he died and the singer runs through to a climax where the futility of war is emotionally served to the listener.

It is a very moving song, very sad, and quite brilliantly written.

Cheers,

"Photograph" by Ringo Starr and George Harrison. The song itself isn't that depressing, but thinking about Ringo performing it at the concert for George gets me a bit sad.

The winner takes it all by ABBA. It's a song I grew up with but I never really LISTENED to it properly. One night about a year ago, I had my mp3 player on shuffle and it came on. There were tears.
