My ABS light is on along with my trac off light and check tire pressure. They all have to do with the abs because I tried to reset the check tire pressure light but it will not reset. I read the manual that came with the car and it says if the check tire pressure light and abs light is on at the same time, they have to do with each other. I have a digital volt/ohm meter. What do I check for to see if the sensors are working?

I took mine to a trans shop (most will do free diagnostic eval to try to get your business). They didn't find anything wrong with the tranny (weird) but ABS system is connected so bingo, left front. Also, the wires like to crack from the front tires turning back and forth and the connectors can go bad so would check those too. Even the scanners cannot tell the difference between the sensor, wires, or connector, since all it reads is feedback or loss of. Wheel speed sensors fail frequently on the GM cars, I've had at least two go bad so far on my '97 Riv. They are basically a magnet, and metal dust from bearing wear sticks and blocks the signal. If they are removable you could just pull them out and clean the debris off. You can't on a Riv but can on a Bonneville, don't know about the Grand Prix's...

The wheel bearing each have a rotational sensor for ABS. You can OHM the two wires each and find the bad sensor just unplug each one at a time open circuit is bad. Rubber seals in each plug keep moisture out I bet you find some corrosion then it is best purchasing new wheel bearings for each affected wheel. Aftermarket bearings and GM have to be installed properly plug down and not drop the axle onto the wires when reassembling the bearing to the front knuckle or rear suspension. Loctite and torque wrenches are also necessary.

Connect a jumper harness between the Wheel Speed Sensor & the wire, then turn the wheel & see if you have a reading on a Voltage Meter.

f it is the sensor you should b able to get the hubs(as they r a sealed unit)for 1-2 hundred dollars depending on what kind of warranty you want on the part. I just replaced both rear hubs on my 96 grand prix a few months ago. It wasn't to difficult
