Democratic Socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically—to meet public needs, not to make profits for a few. To achieve a more just society, many structures of our government and economy must be radically transformed through greater economic and social democracy so that ordinary Americans can participate in the many decisions that affect our lives.

Quite honestly, now that we have fewer elder politicians, the differences between the parties is so little they will pinch one-anothers ideas as policy - this is probably why at the moment the conservatives are proposing stupid things like adding 7p to a pint of beer to cure binge drinking !! They are probably hoping Labour will pick it up and run with it! Today it's a safe bet that they are all 'career' politicians as opposed to former politicians who had a calling and a need to do things, make things better for their country. Now most of them are on the gravy train, and if they fail in Westminster - well there's an even faster gravy train in Brussells - especially for unelectable people like soon to be 'Lord' Mandelson - yeuch!!

Socialism, which now can often be interchanged with the term liberalism, essentially promotes a strong centralized government. This system says that it is better to have the government run most social programs, and things such as health care. The thought is that these things should provide services though income redistribution, essentially taking wealth from those who have it, and though government agencies, divide amongst those who don't. This can be done in the form of welfare, and services.
Conservatism is based on the concept of reducing government influence in the life of individuals, allowing people to succeed on their own accord. There are of course provisions to protect those who are unable, do to things like being handicapped. The belief is that if left to their own fruition, most will succeed on their own and raise their own standard of living. Conservatives also believe that with less government interference people will be able to provide more assistance to the less fortunate though donation to private charities. The belief is that private organizations tend to be better able to provide these services than large government bureaucracies.

Socialists generally believe that everyone should pretty much be equal as far as what money and things they have, no matter who worked the harder to get the money.
Conservatives are a lot more varied but generally believe that they should keep anything they make and that they have very little responsibility to the less fortunate in society, since they believe that it is that person's fault that they are less fortunate.

Have you been to any council Estate recently.
Socialists are people who work hard for what they have and do not mind helping other people.
Conservatives get other people to do the work, dont pay very much and wont help anyone but themselves.

The Tories are lying bastards and everyone knows it, so we know were we stand.
Labour are bastards but pretend to be our friends and many people are fooled so they are lying bastards but sometimes they have been known to get near the truth but only a spin version. So we don't know were we stand
