yes,
Real, actual slavery, as has been practiced for thousands of years....and in some African countries, it is tacitly accepted by the government, too. Countries like Mauritania, Sierra Leone and Niger have been condemned for allowing slavery to flourish by Amnesty International.

then there is the vast undercurrent of illegal slavery... sex slavery, in Europe - often with teenage eastern european girls, who were snatched and held, after being promised legitimate jobs as nannies and au pairs.

Yes, it most certainly does still happen today

Of course, only it is know by other names now! Ask Wal-Mart, Victoria's Secret, Nike or any other company that out-sources our jobs to places like China, Pakistan, India or any developing nation where they pay on the average, .10/hr ! If that is not a form of slavery I'll eat my hat! There are still some places on the planet where slavery is a widespread practice. There are many young girls and boys lured into the world of pornography and prostitution with lies and force! They are held captive in whatever country they are sent to and forced to work for no pay and very little sustenance. Although slavery has been outlawed all over the world it still exists physically on many levels and in many places!

Then there is the case of mental and ideological slavery! The majority of people who adhere to an organized religion are often slaves of their own naivete and blind faith in things that they don't even begin to understand. This type of slavery is taken advantage of by the unscrupulous leaders for their own benefit. Go figure!

It depends on what you mean by slavery. there are no doubt a lot of people in the world who would match the definition of slavery. The ones that come to the media attention are usually women trapped into prostitution with offers of getting good jobs. There are domestic servants in this country who are virtual slaves because their visa only allows them to work as domestic servants to they can't leave without enough money to get back to their homes. In the BDSM field there are voluntary slaves who work will work for a master or mistress for no pay or even go out to work and hand over all their earnings to their master or mistress. These arrangements are not publicised so we do not know how many there are but I personally know a few.

Depends what type of slavery you mean. There are sweatshops in the Far East which employ child labour at 10p per day. There are people who are sold via traffickers throughout the world for cheap labour or prostitution. There are others who exploit people, usually foreign migrants for cheap rate work in this country. There are some people, usually women, who are exploited in family homes by being made to do chores for little or no pay.

Yes but it's so hidden none of us ever see it. I once saw a movie about the sex trade that was going on in America it was shocking to me. Also Oprah did a show about it.
Then theres all the stuff I hear going on in African countries. Sometimes I wish a second flood would happen only killing the scumbags on the world but sadly since the first flood never worked I doubt it would work a second time around.

yes, there is physical slavery in different countries.

There are ppl who make money, but it is little to nothing (that's where the term slave wages come from) and lots of work is sourced to these ppl for that reason.

Then there is mental slavery. Mental slavery happens alot in America.

Yes, even though we get paid a wage lets face it the wage is just about enough to pay our mortgage, bills, food, clothing, entertainment and if we have children they are expensive aren't they?

During slavery the owner had you work all day from dawn till dusk, he/she provided the place to sleep, food and then when he needed some extra finance he/she simply took a few of his/her slaves to the market place and traded them.
Neat!
