Any car made after the year 2002 is not going to be worth a damn no matter who makes it.
Korea is making cheap little rice rockets not made for out environment, cold climates, and winter roads.
The parts are 75% plastic even the screws and clips are plastic.
Why do you think you got a good deal? You are better off in an American made car. You are an American.
I can say that as a UAW worker I am not a slob, I take pride in my work, as everyone does at my shop. Granholm has now put us almost completly out of work, and the Koreans are taking over.
Now if you want to help them out, thats up to you, I for one will never buy another foreign car. I refuse to work on most of them.
What do you do for a living?

A horrible trade. And you are obviously having doubts about it yourself or you wouldn't be on Yahoo! Answers asking.
Do you even know what the UAW stands for? The UAW doesn't make the cars......their members do. And by the way, the UAW isn't just GM.
I am not a fan of GM, but you are talking **** about something you have no idea about. Do some research before you decide to run your mouth.
If Korean products are so great why don't you move there?
Good luck with your P.O.S. Hyundai. Idiot.

Hyundai might be better at first but I've known several people who were dissatisfied with their Korean cars once the miles started to get higher. But hey it's your money and you can spend it on whatever you want to. However, as the ownwer of a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am, I find it hard to believe you had THAT much trouble with your car. Mine has nearly 60,000 miles on it and its only had a 3 minor things go wrong with it (radio display, window regulator, strut bearings) and all were under warranty. As for the UAW I really don't know much about that organization so I really don't know what to tell you.

You only put 36,000 on the car, you had it 4 years and you are upset that it needed repairs a total of six times? Did you have the recommended maintenance done on the vehicle? You do not say what repairs were needed. What kind of driving do you do. If you are doing mostly short trips, you can expect to need brakes replaced within that 4 year period. If you are driving on rough roads, you can also expect to have to have the front end aligned.
I personally do not think you did well trading your car. If you do not take care of a vehicle, you are going to have problems! In 4 years you most likely will be saying the same things about your new car!

I second Mary A's input... they are a union..not a manufacturer .btw...did you buy the Grand Am new? did you maintain it? I know of 4 Grand Ams with over 200,000 miles on them. personally I would have to wear a disguise to ride in a hyundai so nooone would see me. Let alone buy one.. I hope it doesn't break down...have fun getting parts. Speaking of fun...I'd like to chain 3 or 4 hyundais to the back of my 61 Pontiac and drag them around behind me like beer cans after my wedding.

you think the UAW designed and spec'd out your old pontiac?
nope the UAW just provides workers to the various automobile manufacturers for assembly, and thats all.
the manufacturer chooses everything about that car, not the employees that build them.
if your pontiac was garbage, place the blame where it belongs, on General Motors.
GM doesn't know how to make quality anymore.
Ford does.

You answered your own question. Of course you did good changing your old American Pontiac for a new Korean car.
Co a quick Google search and you'll notice the huge difference in reliability between an old Pontiac and a new Hyundai.
Hyundai just gets better and better at making cars. And Pontiac... well, they're GM. Enough said.

I guess you did make a good trade, since you seem to love your new car a lot more.
At least you didn't buy a Kia...
I must give you credit for that.
