I applied oven cleaner to inside of my very dirty BBQ gas grill and I let it sat over night and washed it off good.
Well, good news and bad news, good news is it cleaned off the grease, but the bad news is it also washed off the coding on the side of the grill wall. Instead of black wall, now is kind of white-ish...
I will heat it up real good to burn off the chemical first before using it, but...

Is it safe to use the grill?

You are probably seeing the aluminum the grill is cast out of. They use a high temp paint on them. As long as you get all the oven cleaner off, you should not have a problem. Same as using the cleaner in your inside oven.

Yes, just give the grate a good wash/rinse and a dry it should be ok... In the future if you want to clean you grill grate with oven cleaner remove the rack, wear gloves and spray the rack with cleaner.. .Put in a black trash bag and leave outside overnight... Wash/rinse and you are good to go... Good luck...
