Well, a lot of things would be different because of the word "IF"--for only two letters, it carries a lot of weight. The beauty--and the problem--with asking "What if?" is that no positive conclusion can be reached, but it's nonetheless amusing to consider alternate outcomes.

But I'm not quite sure I get the drift of your question. Are you asking what might have happened if Brazil and other portions of Latin America had NOT been explored by Europeans? Or if they HAD been explored by, say, Asians?

Let's consider the latter possibility.

Now, IF an Asian people--let's say the Chinese--had discovered the South American land mass, what might have happened?

Two possibilities come to mind: they may have just explored a bit and gone home with interesting new stories, OR they may have gone home with interesting new stories that may have stimulated further expeditions.

This, in turn, MAY have led to more exploration by the Chinese (and possibly other Asians, such as the Koreans and/or Japanese), aand possible colonization. Had this been the case, what we now call Latin America might have developed into a culture much more influenced by Asia than Europe.

Now, bear in mind that this is all speculation--and I suspect one of the reasons that it was the Europeans who stumbled across the Americas first was because the Atlantic is a lot smaller than the Pacific.

But it's still fun to play the alternate outcome game--I'll admit to playing it myself!

I think someone else would have stumbled across Central and South America. Exploration is in the blood of humanity.

I also agree with the fellow who reminded us that the inhabitants of the time weren't lost at all. They knew where they were all the time.

I get misplaced as a question of normalcy. I haven't any experience of path, I have no idea which means I'm coming from, so I regularly turn out to be going the identical means I got here. I was once on a cruise final yr and nonetheless on the finish of seven days did not understand the entrance from the again. It's my curse.

They stumbled across those places because they were lost. Getting lost on purpose is what exploration is about.

Not wishing to be difficult, but the people living in Brazil and Latin America probably didn't need to be found, they knew who they were beforehand... :-)
