A lesbian coworker brought a copy of one of Alison Bechdel's comic books to work yesterday, and I'm hooked! I'm straight, but I still think it's better than most soap operas.

I'm impressed that you read it. I do have a straight friend who likes it (and I'm sure that's not you :-), but other straight people I've shown it to are kind of left cold by it. I think it's wonderfully soap-operatic, too, sort of like "For Better or Worse."

I didn't even know it was still around! I liked it in the beginning, but it got to soap opera-ish for me and I stopped buying the books.
That's just me though, I like my entertainment to be silly and light-hearted. I have too much drama and seriousness in real life to want to read about someone else's.
