These are hard to answer.
I presume you know the name of the worm. I would enter that name in a search engine and see if there are removel tools that can remove it. I would also see if there are other recommendations about it. Often this is the best way to get it removed safely. It is very hard to give sound advice to you other than this.
Leaving it where it is may or may not be helpful. It may be archived and dormant there; then again it may resurrect itself.
Meanwhile be sure to update your operating system for all security updates by going to the Microsoft Site and updating your virus protection as well.

delete the archives and hope for the best. Windows is prone to viruses, it costs a fortune to keep up with windows viruses. having to buy anti virus software.. so here is what you can do:-
download a copy of live cd/dvd Linux. and run linux from the cd/dvd while your on the internet, that way you will never get a virus again. you will also learn how to use linux, at the same time and once you have learned how to use Linux you will soon move off MS Windows... and onto linux...
check out the web links below and find out what you can do with linux. it leaves window in the shade
also to see what can be done with linux, goto youtube.com and type in the search bar .. Linux look at all the video clips, you will see just what can be done using linux

The whole archive is now corrupt. You need to delete the whole archive. Also do a complete full scan of your hard drive(s).

Virus scanners will not delete a virus that is within a compressed file...
So if the virus is compressed inside of a file, it will not HARM your pc, unless activated by you.
What I would do, is open the compressed file, drag & drop the virus file, or the file it detects as a virus, to your desktop, then once you do, let your scanner detect it automatically or by scanning, and it will then get quarinteened...
NOTE: if you do the above, make sure you dont DOUBLE click the virus, and activate it... They only activate if you double click them like opening a program.
Other than that, if the compressed file is something you dont need, and isnt critical to windows, just delete it and be done with it.
