My daughter is 6.5 months old. She hasn't had a bowel movement in almost 4 days. She pushes every once in a while but nothing is coming out. I know it is bothering her. I have given her pear juice which usually works, but not this time. Should I call the doc? How much longer should I wait?

I would most definitely call the doctor. Prune juice (diluted in a little cereal) always worked wonders for my boys. My mom always suggested glycerin suppositories but I think they are a little too strong. I don't think I would wait, your little sweetie is probably very uncomfortable.

Putting about an ounce of Karo syrup in the bottle almost always does the trick. My kids went thru a phase like this too about this age. If you recently started her on baby foods or she is eating more than before, this is probably the culprit. Doctors tend to want parents to avoid giving children much juice. I never gave my children more than 4 oz at most in a day. However, prune juice or apple juice can help. Also try laying her on her back and holding her legs just below the knees and gently and slowly pushing her legs up to her tummy hold for a few seconds and repeat several times. This helps to stimulate the bowels. They also sell baby suppositories at walmart. They cost about a dollar and are safe. If she seems fussier than normal she is probably in pain and I urge you to call the doctor ASAP.

I would first off try baby Prune juice. Gerber has it in single serve sizes. If she does not go with in I would say 6 hrs or so i would call the doctor. But if you are feeling uneasy and your child is really cranky and you can tell that this is bothering her you may want to go ahead and call the doctor and just see what they say. You would always rather be safe than sorry!

We are having issues with constipation right now too, my daughter hasn't had a bowel movement in 3 days and prior to that it had been 4 days...so one bm in a whole week, we are giving her glyserin suppositories (per doctor's orders) and Karo syrup in her sippy cup. I would go ahead and call the doctor, they can usually tell you what to do over the phone :)

How about trying some prunes - mix it in with something else and see how it goes - my middle daughter suffered when she was a toddler - it was awful - her BM were rock hard -
and she'd cry we did a dab of child senacote or the glycerin
things - no fun for her but it did help.
Call them it's their job to be there for you and see what they suggest you do - perhaps she needs more fluids -
if you are doing solids?

You need to take her to the doctor ASAP NOW did you know constipation can kill you. The baby cant tell you how miserable she is and its probably the milk or if your feeding her cereal its probably backing her bowels up make sure you give her water between feedings. Her little stomach can't take that and she probably going to end up sick and weak. If the doctor cannot see her TODAY you take her to the emergency, please dont wait. She is to young to be going through that and she cant tell you whats going on with her.

I have 2 sons they are now teens but I've been there.

Call the dr and talk to a nurse. They might want you to take her on in or she might can suggest some things to try and if those don't work in a few mins then check her.

My daughter had this problem three weeks ago and the only thing that worked was Karo syrup mixed in with some formula.
Trust me it will work!!

I would call the doctor and speak to a nurse. They may give you some more suggestions of things to try or may suggest she be seen.
Good Luck!

4 days is too long ! After 1 day I would have at least called. Poor thing.........

Try diluting some prune juice w/ water in the mean time.
