Maybe it only takes USB, or firewire?

This machine may not have a built in ethernet port.

Notebooks have a pcmcia slot in most cases. I suspect you have such. You can get an Ethernet PCMCIA ethernet card that slides into the PCMCIA slot and will do the job for you. These are much more reliable than a USB - Ethernet adapter which have been problematic.

Go to any reputable pc hardware sales house and you will find these devices by entering "PCMCIA Ethernet Card" in the search.

You need a pcmia card bus adaptor. You should have 2 slots in the side that takes these little cards. Alot of times there is a modem in the slot 2.
