I am trying to find out what that scanning device was. It is suposed to be a 3D scanner, something like a portable CT scanner. I have seen it only sparcely in the past, as an experimental 3D scanning device prone to be used by physicians in the future. It was developed by a Japanese scientist a couple of years back, but besides of being on the news only once, it has been kept a secret, until now, as it sems. The whole concept is like the imaginary scanning device that the stranded austronauts on mars used in the movie "Red Planet", staring Val Kilmer.

Dont believe everything you see in the movies. Currently, screens like the one you saw are in development, but not yet fully realized. There is a concept called "suspension of disbelief," which you have captured in your viewing experience of this film....you just have to remember that it only applies to the movie though.
