I am going to have a physical soon; turning age 60 over the winter. I am pretty good health - walk, run or bike daily; do some weights; am 6'1; weigh 165 or so. No major surgeries; just hernia and sports related injury stuff. What specifically should I be looking for or having done?

Asides from the basic blood tests you should have a PSA test for prostate cancer, cholesterol check, EKG, chest x-ray, all just pretty basic things. More important if you have not had a colonoscopy that is something you really need to ask about.

You sure sound healthy. MY thoughts;...

1) Get them to take a blood test to check your testosterone levels... talk them into giving you a bit of testosterone replacement therapy to help slow the ageing process... and *thump* the little guy into the next decade or two.
2) Check grease and oil, top up radiator, clean carbie ... heart, lungs and BP, cholesterol and sugar levels since the are doing a blood test already :-)
3) Prostate Gland.. but you already knew that.
4) X-ray scan any aching joints for osteo-arthritis
5) ears and eyes... cateracts, glaucoma, ear wax?
6) Get a hair cut, a nasal hair trim and check those bushy eyebrows in with greenpeace.

I would be sure I had blood tests to determine if you have diabetes, prostrate cancer, and good liver and kidney functions. I would also have an electrocardiogram to be sure my heart was in good shape. A chest x-ray is important IF you have ever been a smoker or have breathing difficulties of any kind including asthma. With all of these tests, you will find out if all of your vitals are working well and are in good shape. I have this done every three months. I am a diabetic and am 70 years old. Good luck.

Chow!

Basically, a chest Xray, an EKG,and a colonoscopy, besides the usual stuff done in a doctor's office. Sounds like you are in great shape! Congrats!
