Okay, So one day I turned it on and this popped out

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
< Windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
Please reinstall a copy of the above file.

What do I do about this?

I typed "system32\ntoskrnl.exe" into Google. Here is what came back.

This statement means that the specific file could not be found on the hard drive. Actually it was there or you could not have ever started the pc. However, for whatever reason this particular file has been damaged and is unreadable.

If you can fully start this pc, insert your Windows 2000 disc and do a repair.

If you cannot start this pc, the fix may be a lot more difficult. I have for similar cases, taken the hard drive from the defective pc, loaded it as a slave drive in a working pc with the same operating system and copied such a file from the master to the slave drive. This can work sometimes; other times it does not.

The other option is to reformat the hard drive; you will loose all data on it so I hope you have it backed up. If the data files are not backed up, you may be able to load the hard drive as a slave drive (as I mentioned above) and copy the data files and save them that way before your reformat the drive.

Finally, this is a Windows 2000 unit so the existing hard drive is fairly old. You may wish to replace the hard drive at this time because of its age. You would hate to reformat the drive, go through all the work of reinstalling drivers, software, data, etc and find out 6 weeks later that the hard drive has had a failure due to age.

If you are uncomfortable with the above work you may find it prudent to hire someone to address these steps.

Good luck

It is kernel problem, you can fix it by using your original cd installer. :-)
