Of course. Many people felt that Cleveland had never been a centralized point in the development of rock as a musical genre, although there are, of course, fine musicians who came from Cleveland.
People proposed that New York or San Fransisco were more deserving.
However, nobody raised the money in those cities, and that's what it came down to.
Having visited it, I can say it's among the most lackluster, uninvolving museums I've ever been to. It should be far more exciting, as edgy as rock itself, rather than a series of little rooms you sit in to see clips of great performances, then a few instruments and stage costumes on display.
The gift shop, an FYE, wasn't as complete as the FYE at the local mall. Music I might have bought after being reminded how great it was, was not for sale.
I'm glad I went, but I won't go again.

Of course other cities were upset.. I live in Cleveland and went when it was first opened it was pretty cool, I've been there since it's induction and I think it needs some TLC maybe more interactive and fun activities.. They used to have $2 concerts during the week.. Which was a lot of fun.. Good groups too.... I think it needs some updating- it's more like a Hard Rock than a museum ! However, I also believe that Cleveland should also have the honors of having the Rock n Rock Hall of Fame inductions/awards ceremonies- I mean Duh we have the museum, lets bring in the celebs and get Cleveland the fame it deserves... I'm tired of NY getting everything !

Cleveland deserve the rock hall. It is very nice to many rooms to watch boring video movies though.
They need to have the induction ceremony they claim there are not enough luxury hotels there is which there are.
I never saw no baseball, basketball,or football players sleeping in the streets when they have the all star games here.

I agree with the previous post. The city of Cleveland should be pushing for the induction ceremony to occur in Cleveland. It would be a great way to revitalize downtown & drum up tourism for the city!
