I have this feeling that emotion is somehow are much more powerful, individual experiance in which there should be more acceptanting of. The intellect is great, but if it was geared towards emotional and spiritual development, then would it not be better than say.......learning to drive? I'm speaking from a personal point of view, not modern society

I don't think one can have one without the other. It is said of some criminals that they are "emotionless," but this can't be. Even hatred and cruelty are emotions.

The test of a true intellect is how deeply and compassionately any situation is faced, even learning to drive. One cannot learn to drive well without consideration for others, fear of failure, confidence in ability, etc.....all emotions.

Even Einstein, noted as one of history's most brilliant intellectuals, was a compassionate and emotional man. And to a mentally challenged person, learning to tie a shoe may be as intellectual as they get, but it is certainly an emotional experience.

Intellect without emotion is for computers, not humans.

If there was no emotion, there would be no greed, hate, racism, jealousy, revenge, terrorism, extortion etc.. On the other hand if there was just reason, the world be a more controlled but colder and harsher place to live. Too much of any extreme will always have negative and destructive consequences. Balance is where the answer lies.
