No need to clean a baseball, just use it until the cover comes off and go buy a new one. You can hit it just as far when it is dirty as you can when it is clean.

you can find nice baseballs for 99 cents these days, theres no need to be cleaning them. If maybe this ball is special (autographed or something), then i would just try washing it carefully with water, i wouldnt do anything extreme with it.

AHA, a fellow "cheapskate!"
Laundry detergent, bleach and warm water. Use a teflon pad and scrub them, then rinse off and let dry (don't soak them, but you can immerse them when scrubbing). This will add a good bit more life to your practice balls.
Formula 409 works well also but doesn't help with grass stains. 409 works very well on the optic yellow softballs.

Well, you obviously can't soak it or anything because it would get water logged so either be careful and scrub it or forget about it!
