I can't say what to write, but whatever you want to say is already in your head and heart. Talk about being there for him, how you might not know how he feels, but you support him and cherish him and times like these make you appreciate the relationship and time you have together.

avoid get well soon and if you want to put something from the heart in there then just let him know how you hurt to see him hurt and that they are not alone because they have friends there that love them and if there is something you can do to make them more comfortable like maybe taking them a cd player with their favorite cd in it and playing it for them with the volume kind of low you know something to show you genuinely care

I know this isn't an easy time for you. May the memories of laughter and many good times ease your sorrow.
