they could if they didnt password protect it.

Type 192.168.0.1 into internet explorer.
This will take you into the router. Set a username and password.

Then it doesnt matter how close they are.

You can also stop broadcasting the SSID of your network (making your network invisible) as well as setting up a MAC filter to deny any device except for your own network adapter from connecting to your router.

If your computer is running slowly then that is not caused by someone piggy-backing on your wireless connection. Anti-virus, anti-spyware, and some general computer cleaning are in order.

Wep is the best way to secure your wireless network. Look to your manual for your wireless router for more information. It may be possible for only your surrounding neighbors to see/connect to your network..... I used to live in an apartment and could see/connect to many different unsecured networks. Make sure you secure it asap! I hope this helps! http://www.fizzolabz.com

Actually WEP has security issues...you can use it for minimal security to secure your router and wireless network. However, WPA or WPA2 is better.

Secure your connection using WEP, or make it so that only your computer can access (get the MAC address) but this is pretty restrictive.

depends on the power of your router, but just set up a network password and they won't be able to.
