I’ve been using Pocket-Screw Joinery for years. It’s a great technique and I would recommend it for ANY homeowner. It’s not only great for building amazing projects, quickly and easily, but it is also perfect for making small repairs around the household. I use it every week!
Pocket-Screw Joinery (many people know it as Pocket-Hole Joinery) is very old, but has only gained in popularity in the last 30 years because of the Kreg Jig® made by Kreg Tool Company in Huxley, Iowa, and the invention of the self-tapping screw. The self-tapping screw allows the joint to be constructed without the need to ‘machine’ both workpieces. This makes it much faster and easier to construct individual joints than with other methods such as biscuits, dowels, and Mortise and Tenon (which takes far longer than most joinery methods).
Pocket-Screw Joinery has many benefits:
• Because the screws act as internal clamps, glue is unnecessary (but usually recommended) for most common joints. If glue is used, clamping is not required because of the ‘internal clamps’ holding the joint together while the glue dries.
• Requires only one hole to be drilled, eliminating the need to precisely line up mating workpieces, as is required with dowel and mortise and tenon joints.
• Does not require any complex mathematics or measurements, such as those used in mortise and tenon joints.
•Modern Pocket-Hole Jigs such as the Kreg Jig® allow simple wood joints to be created very quickly, with only a few steps.
I liked that video you found too! I did some searching around and found the full length one, here: http://www.kregtool.com/build

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/XI6AB
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

This method of joinery has been around at least 100 years or better. I restore furniture for a living and have run across it in items from the 1890's.
Personally, when I'm building, I prefer mortise and tendon or dovetail joinery with no metal fasteners.

Pocket joinery has been around quite a while. Kreg makes the best known tools for this. I like biscuit joints also. For the novice home woodworker, the price of a pocket joiner seems high. Then again, you get better joints so it all depends on your needs.
