We have found patches of this stuff on our lawn and have no idea what it is. It appears in the mulched area near our bushes. It looks sort of porous - like globs of light-colored oatmeal stuck together with a gold-yellow colored type of... goo, for lack of a better word. My mom thinks it's cat vomit, but I've never seen cat vomit of that shape and color.

it's a slime mold called 'dog vomit fungus'....it's naturally occuring in mulches... it will go away when the mulch has had a chance to dry out... rake thru the mulch to help that happen.... it's harmless to the garden and soil, but don't let the kiddies and pets mess with it.... break it up as you're raking the mulch around and it will 'disappear'.....

yep.. slime mold. it is a result of a fungus that is "in bloom" as a result of the moist heat of summer. It's perfectly normal. although not very appetizing.

You can remove it with a shovel and put it in a bag and throw it away if it bothers you.. It's actually breaking down dead organic material and turning it into soil, so it really is a good thing.. it just doesn't look.. good.

Sounds like vomit to me! The beauty of vomit it's ability to change size, shape and form. ICK!

Hose down the area, sprinkle with top soil and keep an eye on it. My guess is it will not re occur.
