Judging from your question, I believe both of you have no practical experience in running a restaurant. To open a restaurant, one needs alot of experience, Money and lastly required plenty of hard work.
My humble suggestion, why not you try open a small cafe instead?

You'll need a loan for starters. The best way to get a small business loan is to be prepared when you go to the bank. Have a detailed business plan drawn up. You will need to have suitable locations and their leasing prices, equipment and furniture pricing, insurance quotes, estimated staffing and pay rates, to begin with.
The more detailed your plan and knowledgeable you are the better your chances of getting a loan. Make sure you research the market in your area, food service companies . . . . And, it helps to have your company policies and procedures, a taxing service, a planned menu and all that. Again, the more prepared you are, the better your chance of getting a sizable loan to start with.
If you do your research and take steps toward getting a loan the rest should fall into place nicely. Good Luck.

You will need a complete business plan, and a loan. Don't forget you will need to hire employees. You might watch an episode or two of Hell's Kitchen on Fox for more ideas!
