I bought a property 2 years ago but now I cannot afford it anymore. If I sell it off, I lose $50000 + all the interest that i paid in the last 2 years and I am let with NOTHING in my hand...I have to start my life from the scratch (from where I begun 5 years ago!!!).

I feel shameful for being into this situation and feel let down by my own decisions. Not only this is putting me into a deep complex within but I feel I do not want to meet people as they might make fun of me!

Please help!

If you define yourself by the things you have and choose to be around people who have such shallow views of the world as to make fun of you, then you will continually feel shame. On the other hand, if you define yourself by the strength of your character and by how well you behave toward others and choose to be around people who share these views and who are supportive and uplifting, you will be able to learn from both your positive and negative decisions and begin to rebuild your life. Material possessions should give us comfort, not define our worth as human beings. You are in a very difficult and stressful time, but with hope, love, support, and the lessons you have learned from this experience, you can rebuild a bright future.

Life is tough and many people are going through this same thing right now as you are. Don't be ashamed! You didn't set out for this to happen. While my now wife was waiting to get approved for disability, her home was foreclosed on and she was so upset and embarrassed too. That was 5 years ago. She has put it behind her now, but occassionally will bring it up and how she wished she could have done something about it. When we find ourselves in these situations we just have to tie another knot in the rope and hang on. You can now start over again and you won't make these same mistakes again going forward. Chalk it up to a life experience and start over. Anyone who matters in your life should be understanding, not laugh at you! I wish you a lot of luck in the future.

There's nothing "shameful" about financial set-backs. But have you tried to negotiate a forbearance on your mortgage or even tried re-financing to lower your payment? Try a credit counselor.
Losing your property would be a huge letdown, but if it happens just hold your head up and get your financial act together so that you can try again later when you are more financially sound. People won't make fun of you - most know that it could happen to them too!
