I wonder if the younger generation knows that we've been imposing stricter regulations on industry since the 70's . Yes , 70's my younger friends . The manufacturing industry has spent Billions in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas . Many of you never saw or experienced just how much carbon emissions there was prior to then .
So , I'm going to be LIBERAL for a little bit and demand CHANGE . This 'surge' in tighter restrictions has gone on long enough . We've given this effort 30 years to show results and what do we have to show for it ? Well , according to the scientists that my liberal friends always like to quote , it's much worse today than 30 years ago . And in my temporary status as a progressive liberal , I not only want change , I demand change . We need to bring or green movement 'troops' home . Back to their families . The rest of the world hates us for leading the way for the past 30 years , and all we're doing is creating more hatred .

Out of space.. . . . continued

I say first we start with non-binding resolutions just to show we're serious . Then we protest in the streets . We'll say bad things about our own country and our leaders , and I'm sure THAT is what will help us regain our status in the world . China and Russia are mad enough at us and they're never gonna listen . We have no good results , and only negative results . We're creating more terrorists because of it and it's time to re-deploy .
Then we must impeach Al Gore to regain world respect . It's the only way , right !!

Bring our green movement 'troops' home NOW !!
What do you think ? And how do you like playing the 'Goose and Gander' game . . . . .a lotta fun isn't it .

Mordent - That's the problem with re-writing history and websites . I not only lived in a highly polluted area , I also worked in that industry providing consultations and products to reduce the emissions . We're coming to a point in our country where the 30 and under folks have no chance of really knowing our true history . And I don't need no stinkin websites . .. . I was there !!

Mordent - You seem to be out of touch. The poster asked/said that since the 70's there have BEEN TIGHTER RESTRICTIONS on industry and there are STILL supposed increases in carbon emissions. Even with automobiles getting better mileage these days we apparently are just increasing our pollution. Back in the 70's if you could get gas for a vehicle (remember the good ol' gas lines?) it would be LEADED gasoline! Hmmm, increase in drivers, reduction in emissions from cars, OMISSION of lead in gas and an increase in CO2 emissions.....I say we go back to what we were doing back in the 70's!!!! At least then we were in fear of global cooling!!!

Earnest T. I love you! You're so awesome. :p I've come to realize that "what's good for the goose is good for the gander" is the lib's most hated phrase. They tend to think the gander should just shut up, because the goose is so much smarter and has all the answers, and plus, the gander has a pesky habit of bringing up facts.

ndgbill-- You have the most outstanding gift for hyperbole that I have ever encountered.

Well that's where you're wrong. Carbon emmissions have increased since 1970. http://img.tfd.com/wiki/5/56/Global_Carbon_Emission_by_Type.png

Those stricter regulations were to curtail such things as using leaded petrol (something which I'm sure EVERYONE can agree is a good thing, lead is a neurotoxin, it's incredibly poisonous and it never goes out of the atmosphere), getting industry to introduce "scrubbers" for emissions, forcing industry to clean up the smog problems of major cities etc. These changes since the 70s really don't have an awful lot to do with carbon emissions.

But of course, if you'd like to live in a city which is permanently covered in CFC, ozone and heavy metal smog (like Tehran for instance) then by all means, remove all restrictions on pollution from industry. I'm sure they'll worship the ground you walk on.

And I think your comparison to this and Iraq is facetious. These changes don't have anything to do with global warming, just pollution. It's like saying "We're losing the war in Iraq, let's withraw our troops from Germany"

I concur. This rewriting of history has me very concerned. By the time we finally educate enough people or enough have received the b*tch slap of reality, another crop of newly indoctrinated young people graduate from environmental propaganda school with a diploma printed on recycled paper or a degree in recycling and we have to start the process all over again.

Like the dinasaurs ,you and your monumental ignorance coupled with your capitalistic greed ,you and too many others are no different then the "Holocaust Deniers".

Like a typical yahoo Robber Baron you speak of "industry" as if they have more rights and "standing" then humans do.

Industry will DO AS THEY ARE TOLD BY democratically elected governments and so will YOU.

Like a whining childish brat trying to complete his GED ,you cry about the money spent in the past 30 years that have had no effect but like the obfuscating lying Bush you fail to mention that the production of green house gases (the essence of global warming) has multiplied manyfold far outstripping whatever meager efforts have been made in the past 30 years.

It is pathetics like you that humans two hundred years from now will look upon as we today look upon the believers in a flat earth or those who loved slavery .

Our mental institutions are full of sad humans who believe that "everybody else in the parade is out of step but themselves" .It is scary to realize that not all demented people who believe this are not safely locked away for their and societies good.

Here is an excellent website for information on the current administration's environmental record:

Although you are correct in stating that restrictions have gotten tighter and tighter, culminating in many laws and regulations imposed by the Clinton administration, many gains were lost as the Bush administration and Congress have worked to overturn most of them.

I just want to ask Cheney, "how you be against less arsenic in water?"
