i have just started keeping tropical fish for the first time. i got a siamese and a couple guppies, mollies. everything was fine then one guppy decided to have babies which i managed to save 11. my partner went to buy some more fish from the same pet shop the other day and there's been hell on in the tank since!!
The guppy that had babies the other week is pregnant again but unfortunately has been attacked and killed during the night.
Any adivce would be super

If the Siamese is a betta sometimes you will get an extremely aggressive one that wont tolerate any tank mates. Some people have had trouble trying to house guppies with betta because the guppies can resemble a female betta but I have some in with mine and they ignore each other. The betta would probably be the culprit if your sure the fish didn't die from something else,it might be a good idea to get a separate 2.5 gallon tank for your betta to live in alone.

Edit:I didn't read this question closely enough the first time,do you know what other fish were added to the tank,if you don't maybe try to post a picture of them.

You have too many fish for that size of a tank.
The betta is fine with anything that doesn't look like another betta, so don't worry about those folks saying he isn't. But he does get 2.5-3 inches. So do the mollies and the platties. The guppies get 1.5-2 inches. Angels get at LEAST 3-5 inches, usually up to 8-12 inches full grown. Ruby sharks get 6 inches. What kind of catfish is it? Unless it's a cory cat, which get 2-4 inches, you're looking at anywhere from 6 to 16 inches.
You want one gallon of water per inch of fish in the tank. You either need to find new homes for some of your fish, or set up a couple new tanks or upgrade to a larger tank!
If the guppy died of natural causes, the other fish would have started to consume the body. Fish are omniverous scavengers by nature, so you should be sure it was aggression and not nature that killed her. You don't have anything in there that is overly aggressive... Unless the ruby you have is really a red-finned shark. They look nearly identical, but red-finned have a lighter almost grey-brown body whereas the ruby has a much darker smoke-black body. If that's the case, you have the more aggressive of the community sharks, which could also be a factor.
But mainly, it sounds like an over-crowding problem. Bigger tank or fewer fish should solve that!

The Angelfish probably ate the Guppies, considering Guppies are about the size of a good Angel meal. Give the Angelfish back to the store along with the Catfish and the Shark. The Shark will get about 6 inches long and can become very aggressive. When you say Siamese, does that mean a Siamese Fighting Fish (Betta) or a Siamese Algae Eater. If it is a Betta, it will be okay when you get rid of the Angels, Shark, and Catfish, but if it is an Algae Eater, you need to add it to the list of fish to get rid of. Do some research BEFORE you buy any more fish. If you have any quetions, email me at nosoop4u@cox.net. Good luck!

That's life, but if you want to save the guppies get a seperate smaller tank until the babies are big enough to join those other deadly fish.

We need a lot more information. What size tank do you have now? How many of each fish are in it? What fish did your partner bring home?

How did you introduce the new fish to the tank? Are there lots of hiding spaces in the tank?

You need to tell me what fish you have in. More than likely you have put a tiger barb in there or some other defensive fish. You must make sure when you buy fish that you ask the pet shop owner if they are 'community' fish. i.e. non aggressive. If he doesnt know buy elsewhere.

separate any carnivorous fish you had. My bumble bee gobies killed my guppy the other day(R.I.P. Al). i'd separate the siamese fighting fish.
