I use eye black for Gaelic football and I swear by the stuff-- it really helps cut glare on a bright day. Mine looks like a thing of black lipstick, only thicker, but you can also find those weird stick-on eye black patches too.

It keeps the light from reflecting off your cheeks. Sunlight in the eyes is bad, not good.

Footballers have been doing it for nearly 100 years. I tried it. I didn't notice a difference, but I was too busy trying to stay alive to ponder the concept.

Today, I think it's more about taking a good photograph.

I've never seen it on hockey players...just those who play out in the sun. it can either be tape or kinda like a grease paint. To keep the sun out of the eyes.

What is your question exactly? If you're asking if you're supposed to put a line under each eye, then yes. The purpose of this is to cut down on glare.

It's used to keep the shade from their eyes. I have used it a few times and it works.

It stops the light from reflecting off of your cheekbone and blinding you (black absorbs light, so none reflects).
