I may be wrong but I believe that this was a PhD thesis topic in meteorology several years ago. After considering the prevailing westerlies, the jet stream, coreolus effect, tilt of the earth's axis,
and the price of gasoline, the researcher's conclusion was that they all converge in New Jersey.
