Hand in a written notice of resignation, thanking the company for the opportunity and telling them why you have chosen to leave the organisation. Also make mention of when your notice is effective e.g. immediately

There is NO professional way of resigning. Just give your notice verbally, or in written form. Have you ever heard of a professional resigner?

I got downsized twice, and sacked once with no warnings. I don't give a notice because they don't. Actually I walked out of my last job 12 years ago, and have been self employed ever since, and doing better than ever.

With a letter, you don't have to go into details, and hand it in, in person, wait for a reply unless you asked to come back later.

just write a short letter saying I hereby give my two weeks notice as of this date. then date the letter
