...humans have been fighting to control others for ages while others fight back for freedom...
IF nobody controls you, are you free?
IF you cannot control yourself, are free?
Could we ever be truly free?
Could we ever stop making choices?

Thanks for your comments!

Freedom at physical or mental level is not possible.
Freedom is not doing what ever you want.
Most commonly people think if no one controls us we are free if some one controls us we are bound.
But even if we control others we may be still bound.
True Freedom is when we are neither controllers nor controlled.
Nothing controls us nor we control others.
True freedom means we should cross every thought.
Because thought is a bondage.
So True freedom means we will not even know that we are free.
We should cross even the thought of freedom then that is called True Freedom.

Thank you.

Thank you.

You could choose to have no-one control you and you'd be free as long as you stayed out of jail.... then you'd be less free, still free though.

When you can't control yourself you are free until they put you in a jail or mental home, then your less free but still free!

It depends what you think of as truly free? If you mean to do as you please regardless of consequences and with total disrespect to human kind and not answering to people for your mistakes... I hope and believe that freedom is not possible, if you are talking about being able to live in peace and be able to enjoy your life as well as everyone else's I think it's possible with the right education... It's hard though because everyone believe's in so many different things and the world is so different everywhere you go...

I don't believe anyone could stop making choices... Even if 'world domination' occurred people would still have a choice... to follow or die... it's still a choice..

No, world domination isn't necessary to make choices.
The question appears to be examining the relationship
between choice and consequence. It is impossible to
avoid consequence, even in world domination.

"If nobody controls you, are you free?"
An absolute which seems to be ignoring the consequences
of the impact of an individual's actions on others. The
individual is not freely considering the consequences.

"IF you cannot control yourself, are free?"
An individual can always control themself, but an individual
can't always control their involvement in the world. In other
words, the individual is in total control over their intentions,
but the actions which are carried out in the world might
not follow through as planned because others are also
free to control their intentions.

"Could we ever be truly free?"
If you mean by elimination of all consequences then no.

"Could we ever stop making choices?"
No, to choose not to make a choice is to choose. I see
no reason to believe that someone who loses physical
capacity loses mental capacity to choose. Therefore,
the individual who has good intentions still has good
intentions even after and beyond physical injury.

We're never really free. Even someone who believes that no one controls him has to answer to someone or something, has to follow certain rules. If you can't control yourself then you're not free, you're at the mercy of your own bad choices. Life is filled with choices. There is no escaping them. Even not choosing is a choice.

We can have a degree of freedom. We can live in a free country & make sound choices & feel in control of our lives & ourselves. That's about as close as we'll get in this world to being free...

Freedom is a relatively recent concept (in spite of what Hollywood thinks) and its exact nature always seems to be open to debate. I'll settle for the limited freedom of having few outside constraints and a functional moral compass, so, in answer to the questions:

1. From them, yes.
2. No, you are controlled by urges. Freedom requires at least the option of self control.
3. Yes, but I don't think you'd like it. It's called 'anarchy' and it kills people.
4. No. From one moment to the next, that is basically all we do.

interior the rustic, there's a wierd little denomination called Unitarian Universalism. I belong. There are 225,000 human beings. we expect human beings to make up their very own concepts on the subject of the character of God. on an identical time as we'd welcome a Satanist, they could be greater comfortable in a Satanist church; an identical for a Mormon or Baptist or Sikh. the only time we get somebody who totally believes in yet another denomination or faith, in many cases, is while a blended couple desires to attend a church jointly. maximum UU congregations have a minimum of one Christian-Jewish couple. we don't aim for international domination. we'd desire to repair our roof, which leaks, and we'd be happy if there have been much less wars. there is likewise the properly-known lifestyles Church, which ordains everyone right away, for unfastened. they don't desire to dominate the international the two. some Satanists get "ordained" by using them so as that they are able to accomplish weddings. So carry out a little Wiccans, Christians, Atheists . . . UU ministers study for 3 years and function an intern for yet another 300 and sixty 5 days in the previous they are ordained.
