Here's the deal with jobs in Vegas...
They are certainly plentiful in industries such as hospitality and construction. The problem you will face is the fact that you live half a world away.
Vegas is a highly transient town. People come and go like no where in America. This makes companies very nervous of even wasting time talking to a candidate that has not set up roots in Vegas. They know that you may not last more than a few months if you aren't even living there yet.
I ran into this same problem appying for jobs and I only live in southern California and could be there with 4 hours notice. I still didn't get more than a sniff or 2 on my resume and was told it was because I didnt live in town and they focus on locals who are there for the long term. This is particularly the case in higher paying skilled jobs.
My suggestion would be to make the move if you can, hopefully have some cash to hold you over while you find work. Having made huge moves like that, I know the uncertainly of moving 1000s of miles without a job can be tough but if you did say you wanted a change and I guarentee this will be the adventure of a lifetime!
Good luck!

Jobs are easy to get here in Vegas, there are always openings. You might have to be flexible in what you choose to do, however, since most jobs are service jobs - this is a service town.
You can check out current openings in the classifieds section of the newspaper, www.lvrj.com.
As for HOW you get the job, that depends on you, your history, and the job. Some will require an application be filled out, some will require tests, and some will require a resume.
If you want to go into food service, you will then be required to get a food handlers card. Anything involved with gambling and you'll need a sheriff's card (which verifies that you aren't wanted anywhere for anything, at least at that point in time). Some other jobs have additional requirements, but those are the main ones. Neither of those cards require much to get - just a few dollars, some time, and a letter of intent to hire.
So, if you're willing to deal with a bit of paperwork, jobs are easy to get here :-) Keeping the job is up to you.

The best move is to save enough money to tide you over for a couple of months before moving, that way you can find a place and job hunt. Since the L.V. job market is fickle, like Rob mentioned, employers are more likely to take you seriously if you are already living in town. There are lots of jobs at hotels and in the casinos and restaurants etc. It all depends on what you want to do. I know a few people that live in Vegas and they make a ton of money in the hospitality idustry there.

Rob hit the nail on the head... I am also looking to relocate to Vegas - I have been for years. I have sent out my resume to about 50 different employers, I scored TWO interviews. One made an offer for 40% less than I make in NY, and the other said "Call us when you move here and we'll make an offer." According to friends of mine who have relocated (From California and Indiana) - that's pretty much the norm for Vegas. It took one of them six weeks to land a job once she moved, and the other took four months to get a job. I plan to go with no less than a years' worth of expenses covered in savings, which is why I haven't made the move yet.

Believe it or not, Vegas is a pretty small town (connection wise). I worked there in the 80's but got the job through my uncle. However, it can be done. But they do have unions in some places and you may have to start at the bottom and work your way up? Check it out, Vegas is a blast, esp if you are single!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wishing you luck

It depends.
How old are you? Do you have a higher education? Are you here legally? What do you look like? Are you physically fit?
There are lots and lots of jobs in the city.. More and more every day; it just depends what you are qualified to do. If you have ample qualifications, pick an industry, there should be plenty of positions for you to fill.
I would be happy to help you if you are interested in relocating. Feel free to contact me if you are interested.

it's not really hard to get a job in vegas. i assume you want to work in a casino. there are only 2 companies that own all the big hotels on the strip: mgm mirage and harrah's. mgm has a website where they list all jobs for the properties they own. just search for mgm mirage. harrah's isn't quite so consolidated. they own park place entertainment which owns caesar's among others. just go to hotels websites and look for the 'employment' section. they pretty much all post their jobs online. oh, and i forgot mandalay resort group. you can check them for jobs too.
that'll get you started with applying for jobs. there's still the work visa thing to deal with.
