Oh, yes. My first relationship was at age 14, with a boy who tried to wear my self-esteem down to the point where I would give him what he wanted. (He may not have consciously decided to do this, as he was 15, but he did.) It didn't work as well as he'd have hoped. I'm grateful for that relationship because I learned the lessons I needed from it early. Never again will I be with another person who drags me down. The world will wear us all down quite enough; we deserve affirmation at home!

If the compliment is about my physical appearance then I think the compliment belongs to my parents (genetics), if, however the compliment is about my mind, and I feel sure it is genuine then I am flattered, but a compliment would have no effect whatsoever in getting me into bed. For me, it has to be a meeting of the minds, that truly excites me.

Sometimes the lines get blurry between who's sincere and who's not. I have to rely on intuition, which is more often than not, correct. For me, compliments are far and few in between anyway, so I am spared the dilemma you might face :-D

No. They might make me feel good about myself (if I believe them), but that alone could never get me near anyone's bedroom.
