Lynn, they are not eating them they are getting the syrup it excretes..if anything loves to eat passifloras it's caterpillars.
We had a huge problem with that last year..I was afraid to spray them ,in fear of killing the vines, so I put on some gardening gloves and picked the caterpillars of ..you can throw them in a bucket with hot soapwater, that should kill them.
If you feel you have to spray something on them try this mix..get a lg spraybottle, squirt in apx 2 TBSP of dishsoap, add apx 2 TBSP of any cooking oil, fill bottle with water, shake up and spray on the plants, incl. the underside of leaves.. if you do have aphids this should take care of them..this works on spidermites also..I use it on my roses and houseplants..makes the leaves nice and shiny..but I never tried it on the passifloras so try it on a small area first!
Good luck with your problem!

Give them something they prefer--try honey or syrup with boric acid sprinkled around it, or get some ant bait, but make sure it's the kind for sweet-seeking ants. There are also some available for proteing-seeking ants. The guy at home depot should be able to help.

Passion Flower Vines are host plants to the caterpillar forms of two types of butterflies here in Florida... zebra longwing and gulf fritillary. The ants are not eating your plant the caterpillars are. Now do want butterfiles in your garden or not , killing off the caterpillars will kill off future butterfiles. your choice.

Ants don't eat plants. They do harvest the "honey dew" from aphids living on/eating plants. There are several types of ant killer available.
