Roald Dahl (13 September 1916 – 23 November 1990) was a Welsh novelist, short story author and screenwriter of Norwegian parentage, famous as a writer for both children and adults.

His most popular books include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, The Witches, The BFG, and Kiss Kiss.
Roald Dahl died of a rare blood disease, myelodysplastic anaemia, on 23 November 1990, at his home, Gipsy House, in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, at the age of 74, and was buried in the cemetery at the parish church of St Peter and St Paul. According to his granddaughter, the family gave him a "sort of Viking funeral. He was buried with his snooker cues, some very good burgundy, chocolates, HB pencils and a power saw." In his honour, the Roald Dahl Children's Gallery was opened at Buckinghamshire County Museum in nearby Aylesbury.

Roald Dahl is/was an author who mostly wrote books for children, but also wrote books for adults, like the ' The Umbrella Man' series. His mother was Norwegian, and his father was British. He was sent to St Peter's, a boarding school, then afterwards to Repton also a boarding school. Both of these were in England because his father had wished him to go to British schools. His father had died of peunumonia when Roald was small, right after his daughter had died. Roald was very good at Photography and Squash, a sports game it seems. He then went to Africa on a job with Shell, then decided to become a RAF pilot. He went into the World War II and had very nasty experiences, including injuries that had sent him to hospital for a couple of months, which was spent in pain and doziness. After this, he went back to England to his mother, and started to write his books. Trust me, from his books, I don't think he was unpleasant!

Um yeah. He flied for the RAF, his dad married twice, he went to a strict school, he has a granddaughter called Sophie Dahl, his father could only use one hand because of the doctor mistakening his injury, he thought he was a murderer for a few seconds, he liked fish and Norway, he had 4 siblings (i think) and he died a long time ago.

Can I just ask, why is this question in Biology?

I knew Roald Dahl briefly when I was about 10. I thought he was a really nice and kind man (and very tall), but he had a reputation of being a bit of a miserable git. He used to write in a shed at the bottom of his garden.

Although he wrote great children's books, he was known to be an unpleasant man, and in particular very anti-semitic for some reason.
