The best thing for anxiety it challenging the anxious thoughts. What is important to know is that anxiety is not just a feeling that occurs on its own --- there is almost always a thought preceding the feeling. Once you are aware of your thoughts, you need to challenge them. Anxious individuals usually tend to engage in distorted thinking i.e. they may catastrophise or mind-read or think in black or white terms. So what you need to do is identify your thoughts and then try and find evidence for and against these thoughts, thereby being able to challenge these. Another thing you could do is to reframe i.e. come up with a more helpful way of thinking. This doesn't mean you think unrealistically and extremely optimistically, but rather a realistic way which may not be so anxiety-provoking.
Breathing is also beneficial but is a short-term benefit. You may want to read books on cognitive-behavioural therapy for anxiety and get tips from that or see a psychologist who engages in cognitive-behaviour therapy.
I would not advise taking drugs, especially when research does show that CBT is as effective as drugs and in the long-run, better than drugs since you can relapse after going off drugs.
Good luck!

You need to retrain your mind to relax and take it easy, as you must have grown in an anxiety ridden or a emotionally volatile household, which made you tense all the time.
Learn Meditation, and some relaxation techniques, simple slow breathing exercise will help a lot, as it would release all the pent up nervous energy.
Try the magic phrase - RELAX! on yourself, each time you find yourself doing 'that' thing you do.
Also you can try a good parenting book, like "What do you really want for your children" by Wayne W Dyer, it would help you to 'reparent' yourself the right way. The result would be that all the side effects of unaware parenting can be healed or used to your advantage, so that soon your real self can come out and take care of everything for you.
Connect with your inner child, and help it find ease in your calm and gentle presence, let it grow up now.

I too have the same problem. I have tried to take deep breathes every time I start getting impatient and it has helped indeed. Or else you can just look at yourself in the mirror, if there is one around, and keep admiring youself. It boosts your confidence. It helps me. Might help you. Try it.

I hope the above answers work for you. If they do not, go to a psychiatrist and get anti-anxiety pills.
