I want to burn vcd onto a dvd. I even tried converting the vcd into dvd format using Apex mpeg vcd to dvd program but it wouldn't recognize my vcd files. What gives?

If you mean set top DVD Player, (the kind you connect to TV), they probably will NOT play data DVD (unless they say they support DIVX or MPEG4).

In general, most current DVD players will play VCD, no conversion needed. Why do you need to put them on DVD media? It won't look any better unless you do some post processing, and that takes quite a bit of time.

it can play the pictures as a slide show or music as a juke box when saving it as a data dvd but when you want to watch movies you have to burn it as a vcd or dvd scvd or use the copy mode to just copy the disk, the player only recognizes movies music and jpg

use the "make data dvd" option and burn the vcd files directly on the DVD with out format change. if your dvd player supports vcd format then it can play the dvd with vcd files in it. it will probably not auto play the video files when you insert the disc but you will have to navigate to the file and then select play.
