What is it about the human mind that finds a tone at 261.625565 hertz (middle C) to be a pleasant tone but 270hz to be noise?

I have to disagree with the thesis of your statement. Who says 270 is noise? Music is all about context not frequency. There is no audible frequency that cannot be made beautiful by the right composer. A guitar or other instrument could be tuned so that middle C was at 270 and most people would not even be able to tell the difference as long as all the other notes were adjusted as well.

It's not the human mind-it's the nervous system. My nervous system is particulary sensitive to sounds, lights, smells.
