This is the standard reaction for a guy. Once hesabout to lose something he will react to "save" it. The question here is, just how much do you believe his actions are true because hes really afraid of losing you and that he truly loves you or is just an act to keep you around? You nor anyone should ever have to put up with any sort of physical or mental abuse from a partner. This is usually a signal of trouble within the relationship and that the relationship is actually over, but neither partner wants to be the first to take the big step, but only you can decide what you exactly want here, not him nor dont let him decide for you as I think you already know what you want to do here. Just do whatevers right for you. Good luck

read this book: "the sociopath next door"....
my ex was verbally and physically abusive, and the book, which is written by a doctor, helped me understand why, and helped me get through it.
don't trust the sweet stuff, it's just an act.

He thought he owned you. The abusiveness is from control issues, because of his own low self worth.
Leave anyway. He's shown his true colors while you were with him. He had his chance.

Leave him. He's trying to change but he won't.
