Seriously the M's have a legit chance at the playoffs, in both the wild card and the AL west? Why are most people writing them off?

Indians, Tigers and Angles are going to be tough to catch especially given your Manager just quit.

They're being written off because they're playing way over their heads. They've been pretty lucky, already winning five more games than expected by their pythagorean projection. You have to expect that the M's will fall back in line with expectations sooner or later. There is also the preception that there are alot of good teams in the AL, all with better talent than the Mariners have. The Angels, Indians, and Tigers are all vastly more talented than the M's, and I would be very surprised if Seattle finished better than either of those three squads.

So long as they have Ichiro hitting like he does... Sexson and Beltre are both coming around and Felix Hernandez is back to his early season form.

Weaver is no longer pitching like a mad man and Putz is becoming a premier closer.

I don't see any reason why they can't overtake the Angels! I'd think they actually have a better chance at the AL West than the Wildcard though. The Angels are a good team, but I don't see them being consistent.

They lost momentum when their manager left. They were overachieving, and now they stopped.

That's why.
