It's not right but it happens.
I believe the people that do this are miserable and have very little self worth and they love being hated because they feel then can't get attention any other way.
As far as your brother is concerned, I feel he is being black mailed and he should be able to pursue legal recourse. If all the people being "outed" sued, then others would think twice. I don't care how public or successful of a person you are, what you do behind closed doors is only your business, that's why the doors are closed!

Even though, I do not agree with outing, your brother who has been blessed with so much, does have somewhat, of a responsibility, to be a role model, to others, and I say somewhat, because regardless of status in life, we do have a right to privacy. Coming out should be done, at the pace of the individual. It should never, be forced. What I detest, is hypocrisy. Do not say, one thing, and do, another, but other than that, it is a call that only you, have a right to make.

I do not think it is right either. It's someones sexual preference and that is no ones business but the person themselves. I guess since gay people are a minority there is a need for positive role models but it is not right to assume someone wants to be the face for a group of people just because they are apart of it. People probably know he is gay already so there is no real need for him to confirm it if he doesn't want people in his personal life.

I was outed a few years ago....and it had a very negative effect on the job I held at that time. I don't believe that it is necessary to out people.
Having said that, it is a more healthy situation to live "out" than closeted. Now that I have been outed, I am no longer concerned that someone will tell.
Perhaps if we could all concentrate on creating an enviornment where everyone could live as they are-regardless of sexuality, race, religion---then outing or even the concept of being in the closet would go away.

I was outed years ago during a very political trial ... my attorneys quickly admonished the courts & the jury to disregard any & all reference to my personal life as there was no bearing or relevance to the case at hand. And thats what the judge did ...
It was very invasive. Was in the newspapers, having your life on display for everyone and anyone to make judgement. I was horrified by it, and humbled too. I learned my voice, and am now very active in the GLBT community.
I feel living out is right for me, and I would hope that people would feel comfortable to live their lifes accordingly without fear from chemically imbalanced people. No one has the right to invade my life nor anyone elses.

I don't think it's right to out anyone, people should be allowed to come out at their own pace, in their own time, if ever. As far as celebrities, I think they should come out because they could be role models, but I don't think they should be forced out. The only person that I would consider okay to force out is people who are gay but act homophobic and can cause our rights to be taken away...like secretly gay but homophobic politicians or preachers...because that just isn't right.

The gay "community" is very very territorial when it comes to the business of "their own". If one of their "flock" dares to break the "rules" (getting too close to a member of the OPPOSITE sex, or not being "open" enough to be counted as gay and DAMN PROUD OF IT!), then they can turn quite nasty and vindictive. Any gay who deviates from the status quo of their "culture" will be regarded as some kind of a traitor, and dealt with accordingly!

I think that people have the right to their own private lives. Actors, actresses, politicians,whoever.....I pay them to work for me...When their work period is over they are entitled to their own privacy.
