The least the democrats can and will do is to stop giving them $millions in tax breaks the republicans gave them during the last house term. And that would be signed by a democratic president.

Definition of Capitalism:
in economic terms:
An economic system in which the means of production and distribution are privately or corporately owned and development is proportionate to the accumulation and reinvestment of profits gained in a free market.

in political terms:
Capitalism is a social system based on the principle of individual rights.

last i heard we are capitalist with 'free market'. the big bad oil companies, how dare they make a profit. i know, we can nationalize them, control the profits and the assets then we can start with the next industry that does well...oh wait, that has been tried...several times.

yes ,they make huge profits but they take huge risks. there are things that could be done to find oil so that prices would come down and we would be less dependent on foreign oil but they are not allowed. there is no simple answer but you can bet it will business as usual whoever is in office. they will have too much invested to do anything other than make a big noise and placate the masses.

maybe instead of wanting to scarifice them on the alter of lib opinions, we should start running our governement like a business and ask the oil companies to adivise us. non productive employees would be out and more qualified employees in. just a thought.

You should be asking what will big oil do to the Democrats. When Exxon alone reports profits of over 8 billion dollars last quarter, add it up--the White House won't even be a blip on big oil's radar.

I think the present government is bad

let s think fairly
first,do we have the right to have nuclear weapons and others not ?you may say we are a democratic country but you must know that Ahamadi Nejad elected and choosed by the iranian people(NB we are not sure if the president Bush desereved to be a president or not ,do you remeber the votes of the last state)
second: we are a democratic country but we hit Japan with 2 nuclear bombs at the end of the war without the need to do this (Japan was going to surrender)and we donot know if any japanese generation in the future may take revenege or not.
third:we allow some other countries to have nuclear weapond and help them like INDIA and ISRAEL WHICH is dangerous on the world peace and flaming wars from time to time (it is a reason of the hatred of many nations to usa)
forth:we have a very bad foreign policy against many countries like Cuba,Venezuela, middle east, north korea.,do you think if we have a fair normal diplomatic relation with these countries including iran ,does anyone of the world would attack us ?look at Canada ,it has a good realtions with all nations ,there is no terrorrism against it
fifth:we always attack others which makes them going to the steps of revenge.so if we stop shaking Iran regime ,do you think iranians and they know well that we are the strong power ,may attack us??

sixth: dealing with the iraq was is the worst .prisons of Abou ghareb ,killing citizens ,and many things which make others plans for revenge.

at the time of the second world war ,all countries of world and nations was looking up to USA ,now with the wrong decisions ,supporting some dictators, bad forign relations with many countries .the situation is difficult and there must be a change in the US policy

Well we know that they won't do any drilling where there is a boat load of oil in Alaska. I am waiting to see if they slow down the Drilling on BLM land in Wyoming, which is the site of the largest Natural gas find in the US. I think that we will remain dependent on Oil from everywhere else but here and we will save a couple of rodents or something. Is there a problem with big oil companies? YES. But there are TOO many hands in those pockets, on both sides, to fix that problem.

Hopefully they will put an actual energy policy in force with responsible alternative fuels goals. We have the technology and just think of the freedom we can have by reducing our dependency on oil. The whole Geo-political climate could change, but not without a fight. Expect a lot of mud slinging and out right lying about oil, politicians and big business.

Easy. They'll do one of the two things Democrats always do.

Either they'll do nothing, or they'll tax the hell out of the oil companies.

Not that taxing the oil companies will hurt them...they'll just raise prices and the American people will pay for it at the pump.

That's the way of the Democrats. Do nothing or do whatever hurts the little guy the most. They won't feel the pressure at the pump, with their nice six digit yearly incomes and one or two day work weeks.

oooohhh i love how all the Republicans who answered are quick to dismiss the Democrat Congress who just took office in January and have such a slim majority that they cannot override a veto by the President without the help of his own party....but mark my words that day is coming!

As far as oil.....everyone wants to believe that the government can do something - why???

Republicans - you missed your chance to answer this question in a manner that shows that you are the party with the answers...sorry!

It is solely up to the American people themselves to regulate the cost of gas! How?? Reduce your own dependence - slow down to 55 mph or carpool. Trade in your gas guzzling SUV and buy a small economy car. Those are just a couple of suggestions.

Why are you people waiting for the Democrats or the Republicans either one to solve this problem? America, wake up and fix it yourself.

In 1978 I was paying $ 1.50 a GAL. for gas. Carter was in office. I paid $1.35.9 when Clinton was in office. When Bush was elected gas was $1.44.9. Gas is now $3.00+ per Gal. What makes you think the democrats will do anything different.
