The tension is not with street bikers and Harley riders.
The tension arises between Harley riders and everyone else because of their bad attitude and dogged insistance that the heap of crap they ride is the best in the world.
If they did not make that claim, and did not all try to look like bandits and bounty hunters ( what the hell is all that crap about), everyone else would not jump on their case.
The problem with Harley riders is that they believe their own BS. and they p*ss everyone else off.

mostly just because its fun to razz another easily identifiable group that's different than you. like socker fans & baseball fans. actually there is a big difference, sport bikers consider a 3 hour ride a long one harley , goldwing,& BMW riders figure a 14 hour ride is a long one, its two totaly different things with only the 2 wheels in common. its only the newbies that take it seriously & are the most fun to jack with. after you've ridden 10 or 15 years its mostly good natured razzing. if you see a 2 wheeler on the side of the road out where its a hour or more between gas stations everybody stops to help each other. if only to make sure they have a cell phone that works.

They are very different animals, and probably not worth comparing. I happen to like both big cruisers and sports bikes, but I am an exception.
Some of the tension is the trash talking that goes on, some of it is the standard ford/chevy kind of trash talking you hear, people are just proud of what the own/ride.
Some of the trash talking is related to the age and attitude difference between sports bikes and harleys. The avg age of a harley rider is getting up there, the avg age of a sports bike rider is much younger. So there is a generation gap there.
The harley guys are very traditional, tend to like leather, tend to like partial or no helmets. The sports bike guys embrase full face helmet, modern ballistic nylon with built in armor. There are exceptions to all of this but those are the stereo types.
I ride with a group of Harley, metric cruisers, sports bikes, some 20+ year old classics, and we all get along and are family, our riding is what bonds us.
That isn't always true with alot of other groups, many groups will try to segrgate you, try to sell you on a specific image.
Hope that helps

I think it is between 'Harley fan' and any other biker.
I tease 'Harley fan' because growing up only real bad asses, guys who lived to ride, borderline outlaws owned Harleys. People who lived on the edge and were genuinely cool and scary rebels. You couldn't have picked on these guys, they would just look at you like you were a bug.
Nowadays Harley's are nothing but a snazzy marketing campaign that promises to sell for money that former cool image and 'Harley fan' is the very gullible wanna-be who is willing to spend more than twice the money for a very substandard machine to buy what can't be bought with money.
Nobody ever lost money underestimating the intelligence of the average American.

Noooooooooo, not this question AGAIN, pleeeaaase!
Every time this divissive question is posted - and it is over and over again - it does nothing more than rile up the different riding groups. Instead of making people see that the love of riding, regardless of type, make, model, is what makes them a riding community, it increases the animosity and the divide between the two. It would be so much more pro-active to just call it the RIDING COMMUNITY (brotherhood/sisterhood) Remember that both street bikes (sporties, metrics) or Harley riders all put their pants and boots on, one leg at a time LOL -

Good natured fun for the most part. You will see everyone talking when they are off their bikes. I have seen motorcycle gangs stop to help people on sports bikes.
It is just what guys do.

Because Harley riders always run around trying act like they're superior to everyone else. Meanwhile there bikes get out performed in every category from speed to comfort by foreign competition and victory (the other american motorcycle). If your going to spend 20-30k on a motorcycle at least get something that's worth it's price like an MV agusta or Bimota.

Yeah, every time I wave at a cruiser I can feel the tension and effort it takes for them to wave back.
I tease cruiser people because, well, they ride slow bikes. But I honestly like all motorcycles and think it's great just to be on one regardless of your flavor of choice.
