1. well defined constitution which clearly mention the form of government.
2. separation of power.
3.freedom of religion.

6. non intervention of army in the civilian affairs.
7.civilian commander in chief.
8.freedom of speech and expression.
unfortunately non of the above mentioned condition can be fulfilled in Pakistan.all the Islamic countries are theocratic state and has nothing to do with democracy.Islam also doesn't advocate democracy.

When democracy has not worked in India, then how do you think democracy will work in Pakistan.

In India, people who come to power are immoral, corrupt and many times, criminals. India also cannot find reasonable leaders, then how do you expect Paksitan to get one (afterall they all belong to the same Hindustan tribes)

No democracy is absent in Pakistan, the present Lal masjid seizure is a clear example of it. Musraf is going towards his dooms day.

Good evening...well let me just say, I spent 18 months in a city in the frontier of Pakistan called Peshawar. The problems there are simple. They do not have, for the most part, access to news medias. Most of the frontier had little or no electricity so was sort of like the American Colonys. Word of mouth got the news out. Same thing there so if you have ignorance it can be influenced in a good way.......or a bad..So, the government is doing for the people or it is not...depending on who is doing the talking.
That part of the world has not changed in the manner of their ways of life. They dress EXACTLY the same as when I was there in the 1960s as they did in the 1860 and as they WILL in the year 2060. We must leave them alone as far as their ways go...but, on the other hand we MUST stop the extremists that are trying to control these people for it will spread like a terrible cancer.
As far as their president goes...he is doing the right thing by taking on the radicals as he is doing right now..
Guess this old man has blabbed enough.......thanks.....

Democracy and Pakistan are like Snake and Mangoose. It has fallen into the trap of it own leaders like Ayub, Yahya and Musharuff.

As you sow so you shall reap.

Even in India the democracy is surviving only because of one of the pillars, the judiciary, yet we can say it still survives even after 50 years. Its improvement lies with the rest of the pillars mainly politicians.

Fundamentalism is ruling the roost in Pakistan. Democracy is not workable solution. So military Govt. is apt to tackle fundamentalism.

no. the usa supports the corrupt and evil musharaf who came to power in a coup because a free election would be won by people that support al-queida and the taliban.
iraq will end the same way - usa backed dictator.
