But too many burn out far too soon, Morrison, Hendrix, Joplin, Cobain, Moon, etc.
It would seem to be better to burn out at a later date, and it would suck to fade away slowly and painfully.

The question here is not whether you burn or fade out . What do you want to achieve and where you want to reach ultimately . If you believe in force of inertia then fade out or if you are one of those over zealous kind out there trying to prove to self , then happy burning .
I just want to live through with a purpose of decent living and meeting the peaceful end

As I see it, to burn out would be like a candle on its last bit of wick. The wax is liquid all around it and and all of a sudden the wax suffocates the flame so that it abruptly goes out. On the other hand a candle with a good quality of wax will burn slowly and gradually go out. The wick burns itself out, the light wanes and then softly disappears. The memory of the candle stays longer when it burns longer, than it does if it goes out all of a sudden. You almost mourn its passing as a good candle as it fades, as opposed to the memory of its light if its gone at once. I would rather fade away. I want to be that good quality of wax that lets the wick burn. I want to live long to share my good morals and values with all those I know and love and come in contact with in hopes that they will be my legacy. That they will make their world a better place with my fading light. If that happens then the light never fades away. It will keep burning for as long as the memory does and if the wax is good enough the memory goes on for many, many years. Make your life good. Have good morals and values and teach them to others so that they too will pass them on. This is what its going to take to make this world a better place. It may not come for a hundred years but the light will still be fading and not just burnt out.

fade away/ burn out ? at least it was not a wipe out. that would be different. when the feeling to fade has come, it may simply mean a pause, for seasons do change. burn out may mean now is the only moment there can ever be, and being that a missed concept has altered the perception , now can only be, Right?/wrong!

I'd say fade away. Though I'm always burning my bridges and acting just the opposite, many times I wish I had the wisdom and the strength to just fade away...

To give your all is courageous "IF" it is truly necessary. burn out is sure to be the result.
On the other hand, If you pace yourself to give great performance over a longer haul until you have the opportunity to sit back and hand the rains to a successor and watch from another chair, this is Nobel too.
It seems to me that the longer you can have an effect, the more likely that it will remain.
I guess it would depend on If you are capable of going the distance or not.

This is more of another question. Which do u rather... living with no meaning or living life to the fullest extent? Both have their inevidable end but burning out might actually leave a skidmark on society. Why be the same? Do what makes YOU happy!

I would also, if I had not been surviving "burning out" for decades. At some point it is time to stop the burning out and fade.

Hrm... Burn out... honestly, I can't imagine living past 50(maybe 60), cause your forced into retirement, in a broken system now and days, leaving you with enough money to live 10 years, but you live to be 90, so you have to stretch 10 years of funds into almost 40.
Then you get sick, or just generally old and have to pay medical or others to help you... honestly, Burn out then fade away...
