I got a new betta yesterday (His name is "Muu Beta" the first part of his name is pronounced "Moo") I purchased a 2 gallon tank with a small airstone filter that doesn't make much of a current, a flourescent light, mini heater, and a rock for him to hide in. The top has a small opening to let in air along the whole surface, but it is in a way that he can't hop out. Tomorrow he will be getting solf/silk fake plants so they won't damage his fins and Aquisol which will be put in his tank once a week as a preventative as it says on the bottle. I also have drops that make water immediately safe for Muu Beta. He has Hikari Bio-Gold pellets and Top Fin Bloodworms and is fed 3 pellets and one worm in the morning and the same before bed. His tank stays around 80 to 81 degrees. Have I forgotten anything? Recommendations? This is my first betta.

Also, what color plants would you recommend? Muu Beta has a teal shine on top of blue, purple, and red. His gravel is turquoise and his tank is black.

I give you an A+ for preparation and care.

You just need to change the water every week 25% to 35% and check the pH, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate levels and your ready to go the way it is there is a high possibility for him to live up to 10 years.

You are doing a great job when it come to eating a meal, but to prevent him from bloating(swelled belly) from digesting problems you should let him fast once every 1 to 2 weeks to help clear his system.

The plants for a 10gallon i would just put 2 to 5plants thats thick and dark green color. I would only get a real plant if it stays small including that you have a 2gallon tank with 3fake plants and little room.

Have fun and good job

I think you have EVERYTHING right. Bettas are very easy fish to care for and it looks as if you got all the bases covered. I wouldnt really agree that you NEED real plants.. as long as you keep an eye on his tail to make sure it doesnt have any tears... The only thing i could say is maybe get some brine shrimp also just to add variation. I feed mine 2x a day and as long as he eats everything in 2 or 3 minutes you are good.

Thank you for bieng a Great fish owner.

It looks pretty good what you have, but please put a real plant in there instead of a fake one, it's healthier for your fish and the tank
Also only feed him once a day instead of twice
Leave the light on for 10-12 hours during the day and turn it of at night for 12-14 hours, fish sleep just as we do
And don't forget to do waterchanges once a week of 25%

Hope that helps
Good luck
